Raiders of the Broken Planet is a great looking new third person action adventure game with an episodic story campaign, asymmetrical online multiplayer and an innovative combat system that requires blasting and brawling.
We first featured Raiders of the Broken Planet on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago, but there was no gameplay footage available yet and the Xbox One and PS4 Betas hadn’t been announced either so figured it was time for an update. The gameplay features third person cover shooter combat that looks similar to Gears of War, but with unique character classes, stealth elements and a focus on melee combat that allows you to harvest ‘Aleph’ from felled opponents.
The titular Broken Planet is a fractured and decaying planet that was in fact broken by the factions who mined to its very core in search of a powerful mineral known as the Aleph. This Aleph grants its users significant boosts to accuracy, power, reflexes, resistance and healing, and now factions fight for control of it.
Every soldier goes into battle equipped with some Aleph that they can use to aid their cause, but they can also steal it from fallen enemies if they take them down in close quarters melee combat – you can shoot and kill enemies from a distance if you like but you won’t be able to their Aleph and ammo. This makes for an interesting mix of stealth, gunplay and melee combat in the game and avoids the Gears of War tropes of just running, ducking behind cover and shooting.
It’s an impressive game that looks set to offer an intriguing narrative, beautiful visuals and intelligent combat system that blends brawling and blasting to create a gameplay experience where brains will triumph over brute force. Sign up now to break your way into the Beta!
UPDATE: This Beta Is No Longer Available
