Abscission is a Lovecraftian point and click adventure where a detective uncovers some disturbing truths after being called in to assist in a homicide case.
In Abscission you take on the role of Will Stanhope, a grizzled detective who has seen a lot in his days, but nothing that will prepare him for his latest case. He’s been called in to assist in a horrifying murder case which left the corpse of a woman suspended by rope-like fleshy tendrils in the corner of her bedroom. This is disturbing enough, but the more he delves into the case, the stranger and freakier things become.
Abscission plays like a traditional point and click adventure, with you searching for clues and chatting to people to help you uncover more possible routes to follow in your investigation. You’ll need a keen eye to spot some of the clues and now and again during your conversations you’ll be able to choose between four different approaches (Melancholic, Phlegmatic, Sanguine and Choleric) which may help uncover different dialogue results and investigation paths.
The first crime scene you visit does have one clue that’s especially hard to find (bloody footprints), which can be a little frustrating, but on the whole it’s a very well crafted old school horror point and click adventure. The pixel artwork it packed full of detail, the story is gripping and the writing is excellent. There’s a real sense of dread throughout and a definite feeling that this story isn’t going to have a happy ending. Highly recommended.
