America’s Army: Proving Grounds, the official game of the U.S. Army, is a tactical first person shooter that focuses on small unit tactical manoeuvres where teamwork is key.
Previously only available on PC, America’s Army: Proving Grounds now looks to be setting its sights on PS4. It may not offer the gung-ho run and gun thrills of Call of Duty or the massive-scale multiplayer warfare of Battlefield, but there’s something to be said for AA’s smaller scale tactical approach to the combat.
Surprisingly, the official U.S. Army branding adds an air of authenticity to the proceedings rather than just attempting to say ‘isn’t the U.S. Army Awesome?’. It features small-scale tactical assaults where teamwork, co-ordination and strategy are crucial – rush headlong into battle and you won’t last long (and are likely to irritate your teammates).
Quite how well the precise, team-based tactical combat of America’s Army: Proving Grounds will work on console will most likely depend on who you’re playing with. Communication may be tricky in the PS4’s mainly headset-lacking userbase and there’s always a chance you’ll be teamed up with a gung-ho ‘Leeroy Jenkins’, But there’s certainly space for America’s Army: Proving Grounds brand of small scale tactical warfare on PS4 – well worth checking out if you’re tired of all the bombastic silliness of Activision and EA’s shooters.
