Atlas’ Fate: Between Light & Darkness is a cyberpunk stealth action game where you use your ability to meld with the shadows to infiltrate a secure power plant run by a powerful megacorporation.
Oddly enough, in Atlas’ Fate: Between Light & Darkness you are a stealth expert who has been hired by a megacorporation to break into their own power plant and set it to maximum production. Quite why they can’t just increase the production themselves is unclear, but it makes for a fun game anyway. To get to the power plant you’ll have to use your stealth abilities to get past the corporation’s automated defenses, which include large ED-209-esque bipedal sentry robots.
The main power you use while making your way through the game’s large cyberpunk city is the ability to merge with the shadows. This not only allows you to pass by sentries undetected, but also allows you to climb vertical surfaces and even suck sentry robots into the shadows. It’s a very handy ability, but you can only use it when you are in the shadows and are unable to use it in the light or if you’ve been noticed and had an inhibitor attached to you.
Atlas’ Fate: Between Light & Darkness does have a few issues, chief of which is the checkpoints that are few and far between and the way the robots insta-kill you if you get near them, but aside from these issues it’s a very impressive game. The visual design is excellent, the game world is interesting and it’s great fun playing around with your shadow powers. Stylish cyberpunk stealth action well worth sneaking into.
