Atlas Reactor is a super slick blend of DOTA and X-Com we first featured when it was in the Alpha stages of development. It’s now progressed to Beta and the devs regularly host Open Beta weekends (including the one which is currently ongoing).
It’s a unique take on the turn based tactics genre, with 5v5 combat in which both sides perform their moves simultaneously, planning their movement and attacks to anticipate the opponents movements. So it’s no use attacking where your opponent is, you have to attack where your opponent will be. It’s an interesting gameplay mechanic that works surprisingly well, requiring teamwork and careful planning for your team to succeed.
After some great feedback from previous builds, Trion Worlds (Publishers of Trove, Rift and ArcheAge), have ditched the free-to-play model in favour of a full premium release, which is great news for those worried about micro-transactions and ‘pay-to-win’ issues. The current Open Beta weekend finishes at he end of May 15th, but the devs are hosting Open Beta weekends quite often, and signing up also gives you a chance to get into the Closed Beta too.
