AVARIAvs is an innovative blend of Sci-Fi, fantasy and JRPG combat that not only offers a full single player adventure, but a truly competitive PvP mode too.
AVARIAvs takes place in a world where emotions are lethal. It’s home to two races – the Eoni who are intelligent and immortal and the Hume who are beautiful, sexual and magical. The Eoni rule over the Hume, offering them guidance in exchange for following their laws. If the Eoni allow themselves to feel any sort of emotion it can strip them of their immortality, while if the Hume feel the wrong emotion it can end up causing large scale disasters like explosions or pandemics.
Kasper is the head of security for the Eoni, but when he discovers a shadowy plot, he his friends join forces to try to stop the world’s first genocide. This promises an epic quest that’ll see you teaming up with a diverse band of characters and uncovering the dark secrets the beautifully crafted Sci-Fi fantasy world is hiding.
The narrative is very intriguing and it looks beautiful, but it’s perhaps the skill-focused JRPG combat system that is the biggest draw in AVARIAvs. It plays like a spin-off of a traditional JRPG, but faster and more strategic, capable of allowing exciting battles against enemy AI, as well as trully competitive PvP combat.
It features a radial menu that’s designed to allow selection of actions to be fast, fluid and intuitive. As you progress you’ll gain new and stronger abilities – all the way up to Earth shattering Ultimate Abilities that require short minigames to properly unleash. AI enemies and other players can unleash real life status effects too – requiring you to complete mind bending challenges, completing short minigames, dealing with a scrambled UI or screwed up vision – making navigating your menus pretty tricky.
It’s a very promising JRPG-style adventure with an interesting narrative and a well crafted combat system that not only looks set to allow for balanced PvP combat, but also make battles more about skill and strategy than just grinding up your stats. A fast, fluid and skill-focused experience that looks set to really shake up the genre.
