Battlezone: Combat Commander is a remaster of the 1999 tank combat/FPS/RTS hybrid Battlezone II: Combat Commander, in which players pilot futuristic combat vehicles whilst commanding an army of units in real time.
In Battlezone: Combat Commander you’re put in command of the resistance that’s fighting back against an invading alien force that’s attempting to wipe out humanity. The single player game will take place over 24 missions across six exotic game worlds and sees you scavenging resources, building units and upgrading your base as you battle the alien menace. It features advanced AI that improves as units earn experience, so as they level up it’s not just a case of their stats increasing, they actually fight better too – using more advanced techniques like strafing and selecting the most appropriate weapon for the enemy they’re fighting.
As well as a full single player campaign, Battlezone: Combat Commander will also feature multiplayer head-to-head modes, including a classic Deathmatch mode, and there’s also a cooperative multiplayer mode where players join forces against the alien forces. It features extensive mod support too, allowing for custom maps, vehicles, HUDs, assets and custom scripts.
When Battlezone II: Combat Commander was originally released in 1999, it was a great game that was let down by some serious game breaking bugs. Thankfully the remaster will address those issues and a whole lot more, allowing players the full pleasure of it’s classic FPS/RTS hybrid gameplay. Sign up for the Beta now to join the fray.
