BomberMap is an intriguing new location-based shooter that uses your real world GPS location as you attempt to blow up other players and dodge enemy rockets in real time.
Coming to mobile devices, BomberMap superimposes a destructible, Bomberman-esque map over your real world location and allows you to do battle with players in your vicinity. Players have the ability to launch missiles, use shields and trap other players with blocks, but their most useful attribute is simply being able to run out of the way of oncoming rockets. Unlike other games there’s no joystick or on-screen means of making your character move – all movement must be done by moving along streets in the real world, with the game using your GPS co-ordinates to track you.
There may be a few safety issues if people start dashing across busy roads to avoid in-game missiles, but it’s a fun concept. It’ll be interesting to see how this works in real life – blowing up your friends is sure to spice up your daily commute or morning jog, just remember to look both ways before crossing the road!
