Carrier Command 2 is a (very) long awaited sequel to the 1988 Amiga/Atari ST classic strategy simulation game that puts you in command of a huge futuristic robotic aircraft carrier.
Due to be published by the recently revived MicroProse Software, Carrier Command 2 is resurrecting the long dormant Carrier Command franchise and by all accounts it’s looking pretty good! Aside from the rather lackluster Carrier Command: Gaea Mission in 2012, the Carrier Command series has been largely untouched since the 33 year old original. The sequel obviously looks a whole lot better, but aims to capture the blend of real-time strategy and vehicle simulation that made the original so beloved.
Carrier Command 2 will be playable against AI or human players and sees you commanding your forces in first person from your aircraft carrier. You’ll fight for control of islands which can provide vital resources for building more units. You’ll be able to gather intel on your enemy via your vehicles’ radar and launch strategic attacks to exploit their weaknesses. Crucially, you can also take control of any of your vehicles and go on the attack yourself.
It’s a great looking game that looks set to deliver an immersive strategic warfare experience where your decisions will really matter. The battles look spectacular and there are some great little design choices in the UI that add a welcome dose of nostalgia for the 1988 original.
