Konami are making a new Castlevania game! But before you get too excited, the Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls Beta is for iOS only at the moment and isn’t currently planned to see a Western release (though you can sign up to beta test the Japanese version).
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls looks set to offer a 2D action platforming metroidvania adventure in which you set out to stop Dracula from being resurrected. The main playable character is Genya Arikado, with Lucy as his support character, but you’ll also be able to use characters from classic Castlevania games, such as Alucard, Simon, Charlotte, Shanoa and Maria.
There’s no gameplay footage available yet, but the screenshots released look pretty impressive (and wouldn’t look out of place on a home console). It also promises real-time co-op for up to four players and a competitive mode too
The current Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls Beta test is planned for the end of April, with iOS users able to sign up now. To join in the closed Beta, you will need an iPhone 6S or later, iPad Air 2 or Later, iPad Mini 4 or later or an iPad Pro, and you’ll need to be running iOS 9.0 or later. Obviously most of the in-game text will also be in Japanese, so you’ll have no idea what’s going in narrative-wise, but the screenshots look great and it shouldn’t be too hard to navigate the menus. Happy vampire hunting!
