Close Combat: The Bloody First is a tactical warfare simulation game set during World War II which follows the US 1st Infantry Division as they take part in battles from Longstop Hill in Tunisia to Mortain in Normandy.
Close Combat: The Bloody First is the latest in the long running Close Combat franchise and is the first to use its brand new 3D Archon game engine. The main benefit of the new engine is that the once 2D battlefields are now rendered in full 3D which allows the lay of the battlefields (such as ridgelines, valleys and buildings) to play a much larger role, with much more realistic movement and projectile physics. The tactical gameplay will follow a similar structure as the old games though, with you strategically placing your units on the battlefields at the start of the battle and directing them in real-time during combat.
This latest iteration of Close Combat will come with 1 grand campaign and 2 theatre campaigns which make up 11 operations and 26 battles taking place across Tunisia, Sicily and Normandy. It also promises over 50 unique vehicles, over 300 infantry/heavy weapons teams and over 100 weapons. Multiplayer matches will also be supported with an integrated multiplayer lobby and match-making forums.
It’s been a long time since Close Combat’s unique take on tactical war simulation has graced our screens so it’s a welcome return and the jump to a full 3D game engine should make the battles even more realistic than ever. Sign up for the Beta for a chance to be one of the first into the fray.
