You can now sign up to Beta test Crab Champions, an equally silly and awesome looking new crab-based combat game that sees weapon-wielding crustaceans kicking ass in co-op survival, racing and deathmatch game modes!
Currently in development by Noisestorm (creator of the awesome Crab Rave video that now has over 140 million hits on YouTube), Crab Champions allows you to take control of acrobatic crabs in three very different game modes. The game takes place on an exotic tropical island and features a co-op Survival Mode, a Racing Mode and a Duel Mode.
The co-op Survival mode is playable with 1-4 players and sees you fending off increasingly challenging waves of enemies in a large open battlefield made up of lots of little islands. A little like CoD: Zombies, there are loot chests hidden on the islands which can pay to open and upgrade your crab’s abilities. Collecting the best upgrades to suit your current build will be vital. There are also single island challenge runs and a bonus endless combo mini mode if you fancy a quick hit of crustacean carnage.
The Crab Champions Racing Mode sees 1-4 players competing to race through maps as fast as possible. There are no weapons in this mode – it’s all about speed and figuring out the best route. And finally, the Duel mode is essentially a traditional deathmatch/team deathmatch mode playable in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 matches.
It does initially seem like a bit of a throwaway joke game (and it was actually first announced on and April Fools Day), but even just a quick glance at the gameplay footage shows that Crab Champions has the potential to be huge amounts of fun. The speed and fluidity of the gameplay looks excellent, the beaches look beautiful and the game modes offer plenty of variety. Sign up for the Beta for a chance to get your crabby claws on the game early!
