Cranky Chibi Cthulhu is a hardcore vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up which sees a cute little chibi Cthulhu blasting his way through brutally tough monster-filled levels.
Drawing inspiration from 80’s classics and the works of H.P. Lovecraft, in Cranky Chibi Cthulhu someone has disturbed Cthulhu’s slumber and he’s ready to kick the ass of whoever it was. To get there though, Cthulhu will have to blast his way through a series of challenging levels and Eldritch boss fights.
The current build of Cranky Chibi Cthulhu is VERY tough, but also very addictive. You’re brutally punished for any mistakes by losing your power-ups (and your basic weapon doesn’t have much reach), but with a little perseverance you can make some progress. The power-ups are good though if you can keep a hold of them, and there are some cool special power-ups that can do some serious damage.
It’s shaping up to be a great bit of retro vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up action, with charming pixel art visuals, challenging gameplay and creative level design that’s full of fun (or deadly) surprises. Cthulhu may be cranky, but you’ll have a blast with Cranky Chibi Cthulhu.
