Detained: Too Good for School is a narrative driven side-scrolling beat ’em up RPG where two delinquent schoolgirls seek vengeance in a crime-filled city.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the Kickstarter, Detained: Too Good for School is a story-rich fusion of beat ’em up and action RPG gameplay. The game follows the story of two delinquent girls who meet in juvenile detention and team up to hunt down a gangster that crossed them.
The demo build of Detained: Too Good for School features a sizeable chunk of gameplay and allows you to explore a lot of the beautiful hand drawn city. The core combat is fairly standard beat ’em up fare, with a pretty basic move set and hordes of theys to beat up. The RPG elements add a little, more depth though, with you able to buy and upgrade weapons and moves.
It could perhaps do with trimming down the dialogue a little (there is a lot of it), but aside from that it’s a very promising game with a great art style, a large world to explore and a fun story. A game that looks set to bring a bit more depth and narrative to the beat em up genre.
