Ecosystem is a simulation game that allows you to create a beautiful underwater ecosystem and populate it with weird aquatic lifeforms that evolve as you play, with the fittest of each species passing on its DNA to future generations.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer back when it was in Alpha, Ecosystem literally allows you to play god as you summon life into an underwater world and nurture it as it evolves over time. You can alter the terrain and fill it with various plant life for the the non-carnivorous fish to eat, but what’s really interesting about Ecosystem is the fish themselves.
None of the fish in Ecosystem are predefined models – they all start as randomized lifeforms that are generated from different types of DNA seeds. This can create some weird and wonderful creatures that look very different from any fish you’ll have seen in the real world, and because their movement is physics-based, they move very differently too. Your initial generations of fish will flop around rather gracelessly in the ocean, but as the generations progress they evolve better forms of propulsion and become more efficient at what they do. You really are watching Darwin’s law of evolution in action in this game.
It’s a fantastic project that not only allows you to create a beautiful subsea world, but to marvel as its weird and wonderful aquatic organisms evolve over time. Sign up for the Beta to see what fantastic fishes you help create!
