There’s a new RPG in town, built in Unity, and destined for greatness. Following in the footsteps of classic beloved RPG’s like Final Fantasy and Grandia, Edge of Eternity is as epic as the title suggests.
Currently on Kickstarter, EOE offers a delightful tale fueled by exploration of a fantasy/sci-fi open world, and a turn-based/tactical battle system. Already Greenlit on Steam, Edge of Eternity plans to cater to fans of JRPG’s by offering an exciting game premise where players will explore the world of Heryon, which is littered with places to discover like ancient cities, hidden caves, and even spaceships.
Venture into the world of Heryon, a planet that once knew the balmy peacefulness of a quiet sunny afternoon. The presiding realms of Astrya, Junor, and Dehostra are fueled by a native crystal that possesses magical properties, keeping the realms connected in harmony through magic, creating an ecological balance. Out of nowhere, the sky darkens, as the light is obscured by invading ships, descending upon Heryon and destroying the capital, claiming the realm.
This is where the player comes in, taking control of Daryon, a member of the Academy of Astrya, he meets up with Selen, the princess of the land which is no longer hers. Together, they deftly make their way to the heart of the transgression, narrowly avoiding The Consortium along the way. This group was founded by Grand General Reynan of the Dehostran Army, in a defense against the invaders. Originally looking for a cure to the Metal Sickness that was administered by the invaders, The Consortium seeks out infected people, and is after Daryon for his apparent illegal use of technology he committed earlier on in the story.
Midgar Studio aims to create a vast epic of their own running on the Unity3D engine, where players gather party members and take point in an open world accented by involving game mechanics such as weapon evolution, skill tree leveling, and a non-linear quest system allowing players to experience the game their own way. Even in these early stages of development it’s an impressive looking game that looks set to surpass the JRPGs it was inspired by.
