Em-8ER (previously called Ember) is a very cool looking PvE massively multiplayer Mech vs Kaiju shooter in which players take part in an epic 24/7 real time battle against an AI controlled alien army as they fight for control of a whole world.
Em-8ER is set in the distant future where humanity has colonized nearby stars and invented Stargate-style portals that can transfer teams of terraformers (Gatestriders) over great distances. During a jump through such a gate, the Gatestriders encounter a race of shapeshifting sentient aliens who take offense at the invasion of their planet, sparking an all out war between the two races. The humans have powerful mechs at their command, but the aliens have huge alien creatures, known as Kaiju that can do some serious damage to the human forces.
Em-8ER is being created by Mark Kern (WoW, Diablo, Starcraft), and sees players battling the AI alien forces for control of zones, which can then be terraformed and used for building factories, bases, refineries and other structures that will aid their fight. Players can use huge mining mechs called THMPRs to drill and mine for useful resources which can then be used to craft weapons, abilities, bases and defenses that will really help on the front line against the alien forces.
There’s a heavy strategic element which players will be able to dive into as much as they like, but Em-8ER is also at its core a skill based shooter, with upgrades that prefer to offer variety over increased power. This means as they progress they’ll be able to tailor their mechs to their playstyle rather than just becoming overpowered and decimating everything in their way.
Em-8ER is still early in development, with no in-game footage available yet, but the character art looks great and it’s certainly a great premise that’s backed up by a dev with some serious AAA experience. So if you fancy taking massive mechs into battle against massive Kaiju in a massively multiplayer battle on a massive planetary scale, then sign up for the Beta, it’s going to be massive!

Too bad Mark Kern the game destroyer is leading the project. Calling it now, starts off well and falls off the rails before becoming a huge pile of trash like most of his other projects.
