Endling: Extinction is Forever is a jaw-droppingly beautiful and harrowing narrative-driven survival adventure where the last mother fox on Earth tries to raise a litter of cubs.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago, Endling: Extinction is Forever is a beautifully crafted cinematic 3D side-scrolling adventure that takes place in a desolate polluted world that’s been ravaged by mankind. In the game you take on the role of a mother fox who (after escaping a terrifying forest fire) sets out raising a litter of cute little cubs. You are the last mother fox one the planet so it’s likely that foxes will go extinct soon, but at least you can raise your cubs and give them a good start in life.
Each day in Endling you venture out of your snug little fox’s den to scavenge/hunt for food for your cubs. You can sniff out food from a distance and follow its scent, and you can also sniff out certain objects that humans have dropped which can help progress the narrative. You have to be careful though as it’s a dangerous world – most humans want to kill you and there are also dangerous traps and hostile wildlife to deal with. It’s definitely a hard life for your little mother fox, but with a little cunning you can make it back to your den before sunrise and cuddle up with your cubs.
Endling: Extinction is Forever is absolutely the sort of game that’s going to make you cry, but there are moments of joy too. Caring for your cubs and watching them grow is genuinely heartwarming and you feel very protective of them as they venture out into the big bad world with you. It’s also a stunningly beautiful game that feels like you’re playing a hand animated cartoon. The intro with the forest fire in particular will really take your breath away. Highly recommended.
