Eximius: Seize The Frontline is an impressive new 5v5 RTS/FPS hybrid in which each team has a commander who builds the base, trains units and uses support abilities, while the rest of the team lead their squad in tactical first person combat.
While RTS/FPS hybrids are nothing new, most of them require each player to split their concentration between carrying out the RTS and FPS elements of gameplay. Eximius: Seize The Frontline avoids this inefficient multitasking by placing players into specific roles – so the commander is plays the game as an RTS while the Officers are play the game as an FPS.
Matches in Eximius: Seize The Frontline are 5v5 affairs with each team being comprised of one commander and four officers. There will be other units on the battlefield too, but these are AI controlled units assigned by the commander to fight alongside the officers. Both teams fight each other and can achieve victory by holding down the most victory points or by destroying ther opponents command headquarters.
The commander is nominated by the team at the start of each match and they can still switch to the FPS mode and join the battle on the frontline whenever they want, but they’re normally expected to stay in the base and manage the RTS elements of the battle. The commander can train AI infantry and assign them to accompany officers, build/upgrade the base, call in airstrikes and research technologies – which allow you to deploy armored vehicles, gunships, elite soldiers and more.
The Officers on the other hand will be fighting on the frontline alongside their squad of AI infantry. They can capture victory points, upgrade weapons, equip their squad with suitable weapons and earn resources that can be used by the Commander. They’ll also be able to jump into powerful mech-like BattleSuits which allow them to use powerful abilities , take more damage and unleash some deadly firepower. Officers have a choice of different BattleSuits, each with their own unique playstyle and abilities.
It’s a great looking game that looks set to really emulate how a real war is fought. Battles aren’t just won by those fighting on the frontline or just by those in the comfy seats barking the orders – they’re won by the frontline and the commanders in charge working together in unison, using superior strategy as well as combat skill to defeat the enemy.
