Exit Mask is a stylish and unsettling first person horror game where the biggest threat is yourself as you delve into a surreal black and white world inspired by obsessive thought patterns and compulsions.
In Exit Mask you find yourself exploring large surreal black and white levels, filled with macabre imagery that represents intrusive thoughts and the uglier side within us all. There are large creepy crawlies and decrepit humans who shuffle along with their breathing apparatus, called “Fumigators”. You have to avoid the bugs and Fumigators as you make your way through the levels, and although you are equipped with a box cutter/stanley knife, you can’t use it to attack enemies – you can only use it to cut through obstacles and to harm yourself (which temporarily dazes the Fumigators).
The current build of Exit Mask features the first chapter of the game and takes around 20 minutes to play through. The actual gameplay is fairly simple, but the imagery and subject matter make for a very intense and genuinely horrifying psychological experience that really gets under your skin. Much like the headspace of intrusive thoughts and compulsions it draws from, it’s a very unpleasant place to be in and you really want to escape it as soon as possible. A very intense experience that delves into some very dark places.

Great game. I love the animation, art, and stylism. The gameplay really did get under my skin, and as someone who struggles with depression, anxiety, and obsessive thought I think Exit Mask depicted the feelings those problems give you very well.
