Flashing Lights is an emergency services simulator that allows players to fight crime, fight fires and save lives as they take on the role of police officers, firefighters and paramedics in a large open world environment.
Playable in single player on online multiplayer, Flashing Lights allows you to enlist in the police, fire department and emergency medical services and go to work in a shared open world. Each department has their own vehicles, equipment and responsibilities and (if playing in multiplayer) players can join forces to tackle incidents that utilise all three services – so for instance the police chase down some criminals and cause a crash, firefighters cut the survivor out of the vehicle and paramedics treat them.
Visually it doesn’t look as polished as the likes of GTA, but the level of simulation of the emergency services activities in Flashing Lights is far deeper. While most games that allow you to play a police officer will just have you chasing criminals in your car, in Flashing Lights you’ll be doing things like writing parking tickets, pointing your speed gun to catch speeders, cuffing criminals and putting them in the back of your car (as well as more exciting stuff like the car chases).
This level of detail applies to the other emergency services too – firefighters will be cutting survivors free from car crashes, freeing civilians trapped in burning buildings and fighting various types of fire with a variety of equipment. Paramedics will often work closely with the firefighters, diagnosing and treating patients – and interestingly they can even treat other players during online play.
It’s a great looking game that looks set to offer a welcome attention to detail in the intricacies of being an emergency services responder and should offer lots of unique multiplayer interaction too – as the three emergency services work together in the same shared world.
