Gravewood High is a tense first person stealth horror puzzle adventure where you attempt to escape from an ever-shifting school that’s guarded by a freaky demonic headteacher.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the closed Alpha sign up, Gravewood High is a stealth horror adventure that’s a little like Hello Neighbor, but with more of a focus on puzzle solving, randomized environments and a hefty dose of environmental destruction. It turns out that your school isn’t what it seems – it’s a vast labyrinthine trap that dates back to the American Civil War, and now it (along with the demonic teacher that inhabits it) have caused the disappearance of many kids in the area. Unfortunately it looks like you’re next…
The current build of Gravewood High takes around an hour to play through and features a nice mixture of stealth, horror, exploration and puzzle solving. The teacher stalks the hallways as you search for clues, unearth hidden secrets, grab keycards and solve puzzles. The teacher is pretty relentless if he spots you, but if you die then you keep all the objects you’ve collected (so you maintain most of your progress) but the school regenerates and alters its structure a little. You also have a couple of supernatural abilities, one which allows you to teleport and another that allows you to throw an orb that wrecks nearly everything it touches – including doors and walls.
The animations for when the teacher catches you could be a little more scary, but other than that Gravewood High is shaping up very nicely. The school is packed full of great little details and there’s lots to discover as you search its halls, its rooms, its rafters and its basement. Highly recommended.
