Grit and Valor: 1949 is a real-time tactics warfare game where you command elite mech pilots in an alternate timeline dieselpunk World War II.
In the world of Grit and Valor: 1949 World War II didn’t end in 1945 – the Axis and Allies are still at war in 1949 and now they have giant mechs to fight on the battlefield. The Axis have all but conquered Europe, but you take command of a small group of mech pilots as they fight their way down from the North of Scotland in a series of small-scale battles.
Grit and Valor: 1949 has a grid-based movement system so at first glance it appears to be turn-based, but it’s actually not, everything unfolds in real-time. Success revolves around moving your mechs into areas to make them most effective (high-ground. Behind cover, etc). The different mechs have different weapons which they automatically use to fire at any enemies in range, and you can also use special abilities to do some serious damage.
It’s a very accessible take on real-time strategy with intuitive gameplay, a nice amount of tactical depth and fast paced small-scale battles. It feels a little like if Advance Wars were an RTS, which is no bad thing!
