Hamsters Are Often Inaccurate is a fun little game created for the UE4 2018 Megajam in which you attempt to manoeuvre hamster controlled rockets to blow up key targets belonging to an evil megacorporation.
In Hamsters Are Often Inaccurate you take control of a plucky little hamster called Richard Emmanual Antonio Leonard Isaiah Thomas Yared the Third (R.E.A.L.I.T.Y III for short), who pilots rockets for the Hamster Forces. The Hamster Forces are attempting to thwart an evil corporation’s nefarious plans and you’re the brave pilot who will hopefully help them do it!
Piloting the rockets in Hamsters Are Often Inaccurate is a little like a blend of Worms style artillery combat and Pilotwings-esque arcade flight simulation. You aim your rocket in the direction you want to fire it then hold the spacebar to build up power and release to fire. Once in the air you can steer your rocket a little using the WASD keys and in later levels you’ll also unlock equipment such as boosts or wings.
Considering it’s a game jam game Hamsters Are Often Inaccurate is a very polished experience and the visuals are excellent. The only downside is that there are only a handful of levels and no proper ending (it just leaves you hanging on the between mission load-out screen). It’d be nice to see it expanded on in the future as once you get to grips with the rocket controls, it’s great fun attempting to manoeuvre your plucky little pilot towards those tricky enemy targets!
