Hunt: Showdown is a very promising first person multiplayer monster hunter currently in development by Crytek, in which up to five teams attempt to hunt down AI controlled monsters, but once a team kills the target monster then they are hunted by every other hunter left in the game.
Hunt: Showdown has had a long and troubled development (we first covered it in 2014 when it was called Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age), but now it’s back on track, with Alpha testing due to start this Winter. It’s a multiplayer monster hunter that offers a novel blend of PvE and PvP, where the hunter can often become the hunted.
Set during the dying days of the Wild West in dank Louisiana swamps, Hunt: Showdown tasks you with hunting down deadly AI controlled monsters and collecting the bounty on them. You hunt in teams of two, alongside up to four other teams, attempting to track and kill the monsters using a selection of Wild West weaponry. However, killing the monsters is only half the battle, you also have to make it out alive with your prize – which is easier said than done when the rest of the teams start to hunt you!
You’ll die a lot in Hunt: Showdown and permadeath means that your character and your gear will be gone forever, but your XP will remain, allowing you to give your next hunter a better chance of survival. Make it off the map alive and you’ll also earn cash that can be used to kit out new hunters for future hunts.
Coming from the creators of the Crysis series, it’ll be no surprise that Hunt: Showdown is a very good looking game with tight first person combat, but the blend of monster hunting and PvP backstabbing makes it an even more enticing prospect. Sign up now to join in the hunt!
