Note: We try to avoid getting too specific in the article but it does contain some spoilers. In Loving Memory takes around 30 minutes to play through and if you don’t want anything spoiled then we recommend playing through the game before reading on.
In In Loving Memory you take on the role of Naomi, a young woman who lives in a beautiful fantasy world and shares her life with her best friend Filia. You’re inseparable and do nearly everything together, but one day Filia goes missing and a strange darkness invades the land. You set out in search of Filia and some way to purge the darkness from the land.
During the first few acts of In Loving Memory it feels like a charming, if not groundbreaking platforming adventure, which sees you searching for secrets and solving puzzles as you make your way through the games beautifully animated fantasy world. However when you reach the final acts and discover the nature of the world you’ve been exploring and the circumstances around it the game delivers an emotional gut-punch that really floors you.
It’s a very impressive game that delivers some good puzzle platforming gameplay and some truly great storytelling. Highly recommended.
