Insurgency: Sandstorm is a multiplayer-focused follow up to the well received first person shooter, Insurgency, that features tactical combat in modern urban settings.
Starting life as a Half-Life 2 mod, Insurgency, was so popular it was later released on Steam to much acclaim. Insurgency: Sandstorm is an Unreal Engine 4 powered follow up that looks set to drop the single player campaign mode in favor of focusing on the games co-op and multiplayer modes. Also, while the previous instalment has real world settings, Insurgency: Sandstorm will feature fictionalized conflicts that still draw inspiration from the real world, but allow for more gameplay-oriented game design.
The planned game modes include Push, Firefight, and Capture the Base in competitive multiplayer and Checkpoint, Operation, and Outpost in co-op. Most of the modes are similar to the ones in Insurgency, but Operation is a new mode that the devs are being tight lipped about at the moment. Insurgency: Sandstorm will feature driveable vehicles and it will also incorporate Day of infamy’s Fire Support mechanic – that allows two special player classes to combine forces and call for air or artillery support at a specific location on the map.
It’s a promising game that comes from a dev team that certainly know how to make a great tactical first person shooter. Sign up for the Alpha now for a chance to get lost in the sandstorm early.
