Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale is very cool new Sci-Fi first person shooter that draws inspiration from The Hunger Games and Battle Royale, in which 100 players fight to be the last one standing in ever-shrinking arenas on a distant alien planet.
With the 100 player battle royale premise of Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was copying PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, but Islands of Nyne has been in development for several years now (we actually covered the Pre-Alpha sign up back in 2015). There are some significant, game changing differences Islands of Nyne too – it’s played from a first person only viewpoint, the game’s massive arenas span time and space, and there are cool Sci-Fi elements such as teleportation and antigravity.
It’s set in a distant future where aliens (The Nyne) have taken to abducting humans and watching as they fight to the death in the game’s ever shrinking arenas. As the aliens have recreated different times within them, the arenas are pretty diverse – featuring (among others) medieval towns, pirate galleons, ancient ruins and modern-era architecture. This not only looks cool, but also allows for an incredibly diverse selection of weaponry, ranging from medieval melee weapons to futuristic plasma rifles.
There are multiple different game modes, with matches taking around 15-20 minutes to complete, as players scavenge weapons, attachments and vehicles then fight to be the last one standing. It promises absolutely no microtransactions, but lucky survivors will earn new kit to customize their appearance and there’s a also system that allows you to bet on players.
It’s an impressive game with lush Unreal Engine 4-powered visuals, snappy first person gameplay and a Sci-Fi element that injects a lot of variety into to the Battle Royale genre. i can highly recommend this game, played IoN and PUBG in alpha, this game will be superior without a doubt!
Interesting although it’s in FP view so that immediately takes away from the loot factor, people love seeing loot on themselves, I can’t quite remember a survival game that doesn’t have 3rd person view.
