Karate Survivor features a very addictive fusion of beat ’em up and Survivors-like gameplay as a martial arts master beats up huge hordes of thugs.
Drawing inspiration from 80’s action movies, Karate Survivor is a Survivors-like roguelite beat ’em up where you use improvised weapons and combos to beat up thugs. The combat is similar to Stick it to the Stickman, with you able to unlock attacks that you add to a timeline, then your character cycles through them on a loop. However, there are also lots of improvised weapons you can pick up and use and lots of environmental objects you can kick at enemies.
The playtest features a large shopping mall to beat people up in and really impresses with the variety of weapons, bonuses, bonus objectives and environmental destruction. The timeline-based combat works really well, but it would be nice if your character would either auto-aim at enemies or you could walk backwards and attack (because a lot of the time you’re running away from enemies and punching nothing infront of you. It’s a very addictive game though and a creative twist on the genre. Highly recommended.
