Katanga: River of Souls is a very tense first person stealth horror puzzle adventure where a machine that can extract human souls has created a monster that’s running amok in colonial Congo.
Created by students of ISART DIGITAL, Katanga: River of Souls is a beautifully crafted and very atmospheric stealth horror adventure set in colonial Congo. You have been subject to an experiment which has left you disfigured and has given you the ability to send your soul outside of your body, but it has also created a freaky horned monster that’s slaughtering anyone it sees (or hears). You need to use you abilities to distract the monster and make your way to the ship where the experiment was carried out on to see i there’s some way to reverse it.
Considering it’s a student project the production values in Katanga: River of Souls are astounding. The audio/visual design and level of polish is easily on par with most AAA games and its dark retro futuristic setting has a vibe that’s fondly reminiscent of Bioshock. The monster is genuinely scary and the various ways you can avoid it and distract it are fun to figure out. It’s a perfect little stealth horror puzzle adventure that does more in 15 minutes than a lot of games manage in 15 hours. Highly recommended.
