Laika: Aged Through Blood is a beautiful and brutal 2D motorvania where a coyote warrior rides a motorbike and fights back against an oppressive force.
The post-apocalyptic world of Laika: Aged Through Blood feels like a blend of Mad Max and a classic Western movies. You’re a coyote mother who lives with a small community in the wastelands of a land oppressed by an army of birds. With your motorbike and some guns you’ll set out into the game’s vast non-linear world, complete quests and fight back against the nefarious birds.
Laika: Aged Through Blood plays a little like a traditional action platforming metroidvania, but with Tirals-style motorbike controls. You can deflect and parry enemy bullets with the bottom of your motorbike and you do flips to reload your guns and your parry ability. Riding a motorbike and shooting enemies at the same time is pretty tricky, but thankfully you can enter a slow-mo bullet-time to give you a little time to aim.
It’s a fantastic twist on the metroidvania formula, with challenging bike-based gameplay, beautiful visuals and a world and characters that you really care about. There’s a sizable chunk of gameplay in the demo too and there’s a lot to discover within its stylish post-apocalyptic wastelands. Highly recommended.
