Leaden Sky is a brutal physics-based 2D horror shooter where a black ops soldier searches for his team after a mission went bad in a post-apocalyptic world filled with monsters and anomalies.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer back in 2019, Leaden Sky is a 2D side-scrolling shooter set in an post-apocalyptic world inspired by Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. In the game you take on the role of a US black ops soldier who was sent to Poland to investigate the murder of civiallans by mercenaries who work for a power company.
It seems that an incident at a nearby power-plant has caused dangerous anomalies into the world and they’ll keep spreading until the plant is deactivated. Things went south when you attempted to infiltrate the power plant and you lost your squad. You blame yourself for what happened and now set out to make things right.
The new Leaden Sky demo is significantly different from the previous one, introducing much more narrative, much higher quality visuals and better world design. It still has the Abuse-style mouse-based free-aiming combat and some very big and satisfying guns. The gore seems to have been dialled down a little, but it’s possible that it’ll increase as you progress and collect more powerful weapons in the full game.
It’s shaping up to be an excellent game, with a nice mix of horror and brutal combat. Some parts of the narrative could do with a little tightening up, but on the whole Leaden Sky has a surprisingly excellent story (though best not to question why a US black ops soldier speaks Polish and has a Polish accent). Of particular note is the excellent voice acting between the main character and his wife, which introduces some real emotion into the story. Highly recommended.
