Marines: Alien Storm is a tense and atmospheric Aliens fan game that plans to take you on missions set within various locations from the movies, from LV-426 to the USM Auriga from Alien: Resurrection.
The current build of Marines: Alien Storm features a single level, set on LV-426 and allows you to explore some of the landscape and the terraforming facility within it. It plays more like a top-down survival horror game than an all out shooter, with you scavenging resources and key cards whilst avoiding alien attacks.
It can be a little confusing initially as there’s no tutorial at the moment, some of the alien sprites could do with a little work and the way you have to try to bash boulders and debris out of the way to access hidden routes does feel a little odd. Other than those niggles it’s off to a very promising start though – it’s got a great sense of atmosphere and even in this early form it really does feel like you’re exploring the ruins of LV-426 (particularly once you manage to make your way into the Hadley’s Hope terraforming facility).
It’s clearly very early in development, but Marines: Alien Storm shows a lot of promise. It’s got plenty rough edges, but it’s great fun once you get used to it and is certainly worth checking out if you’re a fan of the movies.
Important Note: Before playing, be sure to go into the Armoury and transfer all the equipment from storage to your soldier or you won’t have any of the weapons or equipment required to complete the mission!
