Mechanic 8230 is a retrofuturistic Sci-Fi point and click adventure where a humble mechanic ends up wrapped up in a conspiracy after he repairs a simple looking robot that he finds on a scrap heap.
In Mechanic 8230 you follow the adventure of a mechanic who lives on a desolate garbage-strewn world and spends all day operating a crane that lifts trash from a heap onto a conveyor belt for processing. It’s a simple, if a little unfulfilling life, but one day you find a small spaceship in the scrap heap and as you lift it up a small robot falls out. Being a mechanic, your first instinct is to repair the robot, but when it powers up it warns you that you are in severe danger. Soon some guards from the government break down your door, modify your eyes and prep you for having your mind wiped. Time to make your escape…
The demo build of Mechanic 8230 features a sizable chunk of gameplay and really impresses with its fun characters, intriguing story and clever puzzle design. As in Machinarium, each new environment is a self-contained puzzle for you to solve (so there’s no Lucasarts’ style backtracking). The level of detail in the environments and its cozy retrofuturistic art style are a real highlight, making the game oddly feel simultaneously hand-drawn and stop-motion animated (though it’s obviously not). Highly recommended.
