Mechanical Star Astra is a spectacle-filled vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up that blends intense bullet hell action with vibrant visuals and easily accessible gameplay.
Although it is a bullet hell shooter and there is a LOT going on on-screen at any given time Mechanical Star Astra still manages to be relatively easy for shmup’ noobs to pick up and play (but with plenty of depth for high score chasing pros). You can blast your way through its levels using three uniquely skilled fighter craft, each of which has a main gun and a special, both of which have alternate fire modes depending on whether you tap them or hold them.
Playable in single-player or local co-op, your ships unleash an incredible barrage of bullets and so does the enemy, but thanks to the well implemented color scheme of the bullets it’s easy to spot enemy fire and make evasive manoeuvres. Once you start to master it you can even experiment with advanced techniques to rack up some high scores.
It’s a very impressive slice of bullet hell shoot ‘em up action with fantastic pixel art animation, vibrant colors and intense arcade gameplay. The three unique ships all have very different firepower options (one even has melee attacks) and no-matter how much is happening on-screen, it’s still easy to tell what’s going on (so if you die it’s totally your own fault!)
