Mindcop is a beautifully animated, strange and humorous detective game where you analyse clues, interrogate witnesses and surf brainwaves to solve a grizzly murder.
In Mindcop you take on the role of a very unique homicide detective who can really get into the minds of those he interrogates. You can search for clues and question witnesses as in most detective games, but you also have the ability to surf their minds – triggering a tricky Puyo Puyo-esque minigame that unlocks true and false memories if you complete it.
The Mindcop Alpha demo build takes around 30 minutes to play through and sees you and your partner arriving at a crime scene in a rural town where a young woman has been stabbed to death in her home. The murder weapon is pretty obvious (it’s still embedded in her chest), but you’re going to have to do some real detective work (and mind surfing) to find the murderer…
Even in these early stages of development Mindcop is shaping up to be a fantastic game. The normal detective mechanics are intuitive and fun, the animation is superb, the writing is wonderfully witty and the mind-surfing is an inventive concept that really shakes up the gameplay. Perhaps most importantly (as you’ll spend a lot of time with them), Mindcop and his partner are excellent characters, with lots of delightfully odd quirks and a great odd couple/buddy cop dynamic between them. Highly recommended.
