My Lovely Daughter is a very weird blend of alchemy based puzzling and virtual pet caring in which you play an immortal alchemy professor who combines ingredients in an attempt to transmute various homunculi to recreate his deceased daughter.
In My Lovely Daughter you play as Professor Faust – a brilliant, but overambitious Alchemy Professor who has been banished from his land for carrying out unapproved scientific experiments. As a result of his banishment his wife and child died in the toxic land that he now calls home – something that he plans to fix by recreating his daughter by using a mixture of arcane witchcraft and alchemy.
In the game you combine ingredients to summon a homunculus – a small blob like creature that you need to nurture like a virtual pet. After you’ve cared for the little creature enough you can then transmute it into what will hopefully become your daughter (but will most likely turn into a grotesque disfigured mutant), and then you decide its fate. It’s very unlikely that your initial experiments will create the desired results, but as you progress you’ll unlock new ingredients and will hopefully find some form of success.
It’s a fantastically morbid and macabre take on the virtual pet genre in which you really do get to play God, conjuring life out of thin air, nurturing it and deciding whether it lives or dies. Tamagotchi for the mentally disturbed.
