Negative_Space is a stylish hardcore precision platformer that requires you to pull off Super Meat Boy-esqe near-impossible feats of agility whilst flipping between inverted version of the same world.
In Negative_Space you control a little square avatar that can move left and right, jump and wall-jump. Each level takes place on a single screen which often looks impossible at first sight, but you can invert the level at the push of a button, often shifting hazards or moving obstructions in the process. Every now and again you’ll encounter a voice that tells you you’re not good enough, that you should give up and turn back. It seems to represent an inner-voice or anxiety that you have to conquer, and to do so you’ll have to beat Negative_Space’s increasingly challenging levels.
The current build of Negative_Space features 14 normal levels and 4 secret levels. You’ll need some REAL precision platforming skills to see them all though as they are extremely tough, with even the slightest of mistakes leading to your untimely demise. It’s very addictive though and with each attempt at a level you can feel yourself getting better. The levels as small and it features instant restarts so it doesn’t get too frustrating, even after dying for the umpteenth time and it has that all important “just one more go” factor that spurs you on.
If you didn’t get on with the likes of Super Meat Boy or Celeste then it probably isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a stylish precision platformer that presents a real challenge then you’ll have a great time trying to conquer Negative_Space. Good luck, you’ll need it!
