Neon Inferno is a beautifully animated and action packed cyberpunk retro arcade shooter with bullet parrying, epic boss fights and gallery shooter style background combat.
Drawing inspiration from arcade classics like Metal Slug, Sunset Riders and Wild Arms, Neon Inferno is a jaw-droppingly good looking slice of retro run n gun side-scrolling action. It takes place in a cyberpunk future where four factions are at war in a massive city-wide conflict. You work for one of these factions (The Family) and are sent to carry out hits for them, which generally involve causing lots of destruction and leaving a trail of bodies in your wake.
The Neon Inferno demo features one full level, complete with boss fight and two playable characters (who you can play as in co-op). You can run and gun as in any 2D arcade shooter, but you can also dodge-roll and shoot enemies in the background using a gallery shooter style mechanic. You also have a melee weapon that really comes in handy for parrying bullets and you can even enter bullet time to choose which direction you want to aim them.
The demo is short, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun. Every area is a smorgasbord of neon, bullets and carnage. The pixel art animation is gorgeous, particularly the lighting effects. Meanwhile the parrying and gallery shooting elements make for a fresh take on the classic arcade run ‘n gun gameplay. Highly recommended.
