Okinawa Rush is a beautifully animated side-scrolling action platformer brawler where you battle ninjas and demons in feudal Japan.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer way back in 2017, Okinawa Rush is an action platforming brawler with a fluid combat system, lots of on-screen carnage and characters with very large movesets. It takes place in feudal Japan and sees martial artists Hiro, Meilin and Shin facing off against the Black Lotus Clan – a nefarious organisation filled with ninjas and demons.
The full version of Okinawa Rush will feature three playable characters, each with their own expansive and unique movesets. The demo build puts you in control of Hiro, a martial arts master whose wife has been slain by the Black Lotus Clan. He sets out for revenge, leaving a trail of dead ninjas in his wake.
Okinawa Rush looks like a classic arcade action platformer, but the combat system is far deeper than anything you’d find in a 90’s arcade. Your character has a moveset more akin to a Street Fighter-esque fighting game and there’s a nice selection of weapons you can use too.
There are a few minor issues at the moment – the jumping feels very inaccurate and there are some brutal difficulty spikes. Other then that it’s a fantastic game though, with a nice flow to the combat, high quality pixel art animation and lots of challenging battles. A retro action platforming adventure that really packs a punch. Highly recommended.
