Beta sign ups are now live for the PC and Xbox versions of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, the long awaited semi-sequel to Sega’s hugely popular Phantasy Star Online 2 MMO.
While not billed as a full-on sequel, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is as close to one as players will get for the time being. It takes place 1000 years after the events in Phantasy Star Online 2 and features a wide range of improvements and updates to the classic PSO2 formula. This includes totally overhauled visuals, new gameplay mechanics and a vast open world instead of PSO’s traditional zone-based approach.
Beta testing will take place on PC and Xbox, with players having to download and install the Xbox Insider Hub to be able to participate (even on PC). Once you’ve installed the Xbox Insider Hub, you need to launch it and select “preview” on the left-hand side of the screen. Then select the “PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 NEW GENESIS -Closed Beta-” to join it and access the store link to download the Beta. You can sign up now, but the Beta won’t be available to play until it launches on May 14th at 6:00pm PDT (and it will run until May 16th at 7:00pm PDT). When the Beta starts players will also receive 20,000AC and 5,000SG that they can spend in game.
