PNG Mall is a strange liminal space horror game set in a procedurally generated mall filled with secrets, nostalgic toys and mysterious monsters.
Currently in development by Derndef (creator of Nextbot Graveyard), PNG Mall delivers a very unique take on liminal space horror as you try to escape a vast procedurally generated mall. Every door in the mall is openable, but you’ll need to work to open them – this may be as simple as finding a key or you might have to scavenge money and return books to earn enough money to buy a key from a vending machine. Meanwhile, you’ll also have to avoid the various monsters that populate the mall and don’t take kindly to visitors.
The visuals may look a little more simple than most minimal space game, but there’s quite a lot going on below the hood. It’s got a nice blend of horror, exploration, puzzles and eureka moments when you figure out what things you need to do. One of the weirder and more interesting liminal space games you’re likely to encounter.
