Pro Gymnast is a physics based gymnastics game where you use momentum and agility to pull off all manner of aerial acrobatics and make it to the level goals without falling flat on your face.
The physics based character movement of Pro Gymnast draws inspiration from QWOP, but allows for a lot more agility. Best played with a control pad, you control your shoulder angle with the left analog stick and the hip angle with the right stick. The left and right triggers are used to pull in your arms and legs and you can also slow down time and get a preview of your jump trajectory by using the game’s Focus Mode. The levels are essentially aerial obstacle courses, where you swing and jump from bar to bar to reach the end. Getting to the end will be tricky enough, but you’ll also earn points depending on your times, combos and the tricks you pull off.
It’s still early in development but Pro Gymnast already looks like great fun – like the Trials HD of gymnastics games, with a touch of QWOP-like mayhem. Obviously there’s going to be lots of physics based hilarity with some spectacular fails, but as this tweet attests, you can pull off some pretty spectacular and realistic feats of agility too.
