Projection is a very creative shadow puppet styled puzzle platforming adventure where you can manipulate light sources to cast solid shadows that you can use to your advantage.
At first glance Projection’s shadowy visuals and puzzle platforming gameplay will put players in mind of Limbo, but the core gameplay is very different and the shadow puppet styled visuals are more than an aesthetic choice – they actually factor into the gameplay. In the game you follow the journey of Gretta, a young girl who lives in a mythological shadow puppet world, who embarks on a journey of enlightenment that will take her all across the world.
In the game you can move, jump and grab objects, much like in most puzzle platformers, but you can use the mouse to maneuver light sources and cast shadows. Because the shadow puppet world is made entirely of shadows, the shadows you cast form a solid part of that world, allowing you to use them as platforms or to solve puzzles.
Manipulating the light sources can be a little fiddly at times, but it’s fine once you get to grips with if and it’s a very clever concept that has a lot of potential. The shadowy visuals of Projection’s shadow puppet world are beautiful and the different themes as you travel across the world are very well done. A very inventive shadow puppet puzzle platforming adventure well worth shining a light on.
