Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a beautifully animated visual novel adventure with branching pathways, based on the popular Anime series Psycho-Pass, in which you take on the role of two detectives in a Minority Report-esque dystopian Japan where all thoughts and emotions are monitored to predict crimes.
The story of Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness takes place alongside the timeline of the first 12 episodes of the Anime series. It features characters from the Anime, but the two detectives that you control and the main antagonist are all new so even Psycho-Pass virgins can still play the game and understand the plot without needing to know anything about the Anime.
In the game you control two detectives – an Inspector and an Enforcer. In this futuristic society, Enforcers are tasked with investigating and apprehending criminals and the Inspectors are tasked with managing the Enforcers. During your criminal investigations you’ll need to make important decisions that may have repercussions down the line and effect which one of the multiple endings you get.
Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness was released on PS4 and Vita in September 2016, but NIS America are now planning on bringing it to Steam too so are carrying out Beta tests prior to release. Fans of the series will find a lot to like about the game, and the great animation, interesting characters and intriguing plot may well get newcomers hooked on Psycho-Pass too.
