Beta sign ups are now live for RED: Lucid Nightmare, a black, white and blood red first person horror adventure that sees you taking on the role of a paralysed investigative journalist who is trying to solve a missing persons case from within her own nightmares.
We first featured RED: Lucid Nightmare on Alpha Beta Gamer last month when we checked out the Pre-Alpha Demo build and were very impressed with its foreboding atmosphere and surreal nightmarish world design. In the game you take are Mercedes, an investigative reporter who became paralysed below the waist after a mysterious accident. You’ve been plagued with recurring nightmares since the accident, which always seem to feature the same little girl. Things then took a strange twist when a friend visited your house and asked you to investigate the disappearance of the very same girl. You now have to delve into your nightmares, fend off the monsters that lurk in the darkness and figure out the connection between the girl, your nightmares and your accident.
You won’t have any weapons in RED: Lucid Nightmare, but you will have a flashlight, a radio and a Zippo lighter. The flashlight will not only light the way through the darkness of your nightmares, but will also be able to freeze some monsters, allowing you to make your escape. The radio behaves a little like in Silent Hill, with it emitting an ethereal static noise when monsters are nearby. The flashlight and the radio will be handy, but they both run off batteries. When you run out of power you’ll have to resort to your trusty Zippo lighter – it doesn’t cast light over much distance, but it may save your life when in a bind.
It’s a great looking game with bags of style, some very freaky child-like monsters and an intriguing narrative. Sign up for the Beta to immerse yourself in this nightmare.
