Rend is a fantastic looking massively multiplayer survival game from a team comprised of ex-Blizzard devs, in which three factions battle for dominance in a beautiful and brutal fantasy world in climactic wars that culminate once a week.
Being created by some of the developers of the original World of Warcraft, Rend brings player factions, massive battles, win/loss conditions and RPG elements to the survival genre. It promises to offer tight and responsive shooter-style combat, a wide selection of weaponry, a deep talent system, upgradable skills, base building and lots of character customization options.
Featuring a mixture of PvE and PvP, in Rend players from three factions race to gather as many lost souls as possible then deliver them to The Creator. These lost souls can be gathered in a variety of ways, including harvesting, crafting, hunting or in combat with opponents. The matches are then won by collecting enough souls to fill your teams divinity stone that’s stored at the bottom of a sacred tree or by smashing your opponents Divinity Stones.
These smaller matches are all part of a massive, culminating event called The Reckoning, which takes place every week and sees the shields of the faction bases being de-activated, making them open to enemy assaults and attacks from powerful creatures known as The Lost. After the battle, players will then earn rewards depending on their factions success and the cycle will start again.
It’s an ambitious project, that looks set to offer lots of different ways to fight for your faction, engaging combat and exciting, climactic battles on an epic scale. Even in these early stages of development it looks fantastic and the dev team certainly has a great pedigree when it comes to massively multiplayer gaming.
