Re:Turn – One Way Trip is a tense and atmospheric Ja[anese 2D side-scrolling horror adventure where a group of friends find themselves trapped on a ghostly train.
We featured a build of Re:Turn – One Way Trip on Alpha Beta Gamer way back in 2017, but this new build has been reworked so much that it feels like a remake or remastered edition of the previous version. The whole game has had an audio and visual overhaul and the story has been altered too.
In the game you follow the story of Saki, a young woman who was out camping in the woods with her friends when they all mysteriously disappeared. After a little searching she comes across a very old and dilapidated train where her friends appear to be, but it’s also haunted by an evil entity that’s hellbent on avenging unrequited love.
The demo build of Re:Turn – One Way Trip features around 30 minutes of gameplay and contains a nice mixture of narrative, exploration, puzzle solving and horror. The puzzles are the sort you’d get in a point and click adventure (combine X item with Y object) and are pretty intuitive. The artwork is fantastic and combines hand drawn cutscenes, visual novel style artwork and pixel art animation to great effect. It makes for a very creepy and dread-filled experience and it builds to a terrifying climax. Highly recommended.
