Rune: Ragnarok is an unexpected, but very welcome sequel to the seventeen year old Rune, that promises sandbox action RPG gameplay with brutal melee combat in a world steeped with Norse mythology.
Currently in development by Human Head Studios (creators of Rune and the original 2006 Prey game), Rune: Ragnarok looks set to allow players back into the Norse mythology filled world of Rune. It’s set in a world that’s been ravaged by the death and destruction as Ragnarok has continued for seven years (possibly following on from the bad ending of Rune), where the gods are still alive despite the prophecies that foretold otherwise and mankind must rise up to do what the gods can not – end Ragnarok.
The original Rune was well received upon release, thanks to its snazzy Unreal Engine (one!) powered visuals, interesting narrative and brutal limb-hacking violence. It’ll be great to see that mythology-rich universe brought back to life with modern day visuals as you hack your way through beasts and gods to aid the last remaining humans, struggling for survival at the end of the world. Thor, Loki, Odin and company had better look out – even gods will fall in Rune: Ragnarok.
