Screens. turns a well known YouTube pre-roll advertisement into a game, with you frantically trying to click the panel of screens in front of you to stop it from playing.
If you’ve ever spent any time on YouTube then you’ve probably seen the Udemy online Unity course advert that starts with the line “coding your own games is easier than you think”. It’s by no means the most irritating advert in the world, but what about if it was playing independently on ten different screens in front of you and the only way to get rid of them was by clicking on them, then they start up again in a few seconds anyway?. Pretty annoying right?
That is pretty much the premise of Screens., with each screen you click increasing the counter in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and occasional line of dialogue from the dev popping up to torment you. You can continue clicking away forever if you like, but there is a way to complete (or escape) the game. It’s a simple, but fun premise that could be expanded on with more screens and more annoying adverts. Even as it stands though, a shiver will run up your spine the next time you’re surfing YouTube and you hear that now too familiar opening line of “coding your own games is easier than you think!”
